The Campaign for Real Ale is the leading consumer organisation that campaigns for real ale and the rights of those who drink it. CAMRA's membership is drawn from across the world and now stands are more than 98,000, many thousands of whom volunteer large quantities of their time in furtherance of CAMRA's aims.

Cardiff branch is the largest branch in South Wales, totalling over four hundred members. We select our Pub of the Year from the hundreds of pubs in the Cardiff area, as well as contributing to the Good Beer Guide and the Champion Beer of Britain competition. The branch is also socially active, regularly organising trips and visits to breweries, pubs and other places of interest.

 

Welsh Assembly moves to support local pubs and breweries

Assembly members from across Wales have come together to support the pub and brewery industry across the country by forming the Cross Party Beer and Pub Group.

The group's remit is to champion the "wholesomeness and enjoyment of beer and the unique role of the pub in Welsh society; to increase understanding of the social, cultural and historic role of brewing and pubs in Wales". Group chairman Jeff Cuthbert AM used his opening address to remark on the difficult times faced by pubs and breweries in Wales.

 

Success for Save the Vulcan campaign

Real ale drinkers across Cardiff are celebrating following the news that the Vulcan Hotel in Adamsdown has been saved from demolition for at least three years.

Cardiff branch Chairman Ian Hill said "This is a fantastic result for Cardiff that will preserve our real ale heritage for the future. The Save the Vulcan campaigners should be extremely proud of the excellent work they have done to secure their local".

Fourth birthday present for Porthmadog brewery

Purple Moose's (Mws Piws) Snowdonia has today won the prestigious Champion Beer of Wales Competition held at the Great Welsh Beer & Cider Festival at Cardiff International Arena. This golden hoppy and refreshing bitter with an easy drinking strength of 3.6% prevailed over stiff competition from brews produced by many of the 40 breweries in Wales.

According to brewer Laurence Washington "it is a great honour to win having previously won several classes in earlier contests".

 

Vulcan Hotel scoops Pub of the Year 2009

Cardiff Campaign for Real Ale is delighted to announce that it will shortly present its award for Pub of the Year 2009 to the Vulcan Hotel, Adamsdown.

This threatened hostelry on the edge of the city centre has recently seen a massive surge of interest following the news that it would be lost as part of the St David's 2 shopping development.
